Human Resources Strategy
Human Resources < Business < Keys To Success Club
We often hear in venture capital that one of the primary considerations when assessing any new venture is the people. A given market can change at any moment and when this happens it is the quality of the people that will ultimately determine how a company will successfully manage the change.
So what do you need to consider in your Human Resources Strategy. We categorise it into three core areas:
- Recruit the very best people you are able to
- Develop your people to allow them to be the best they can be
- Retain your people for as long as possible
Recruit the best
You should be looking to hire people with the following characteristics:
- High cognitive ability ( a measure of their ultimate potential)
- Good cultural fit ( a measure of their degree fo organization commitment)
- Strong job fit ( a measure of their likely degree of job satisfaction)
- High levels of integrity ( a measure of the likelihood to do the right thing)
Develop and Retain your people
If you are recruited well, then you will have an easier time here, but there are many things you can do to ensure that you maximize your ability to keep your talent:
- Look after and respect your people. Sometimes the simplest things will make the biggest difference. It is not always about the money
- Help your people to grow
- Ensure that there is a real connection between an individual and the organisational goals
- Make the working environment as fun and meaningful as you can; after all people are spending significant time at work
